Medallions were awarded to YAS 2005
Summer Basketball School graduates who demonstrated
high
levels of effort toward improving their basketball skills along with positive competitive behaviour
during tournaments, regardless
of whether they finished first, second, third or even last in the
tournaments.
Expectations varied from
player to player depending on their athletic ability and experience playing
basketball.
A maximum of one-quarter of the players in any
particular session were awarded medallions.
The players listed below each received a YAS Saskatchewan Silver and Green YAS Medallion,
YAS's top award.
One player won two medallions in the three YAS 2005 sessions she attended, an
exceptional accomplishment.
|
A
Champion Pennant was awarded to each player who finished
in first place during one or more of the 7 tournaments held during each YAS
2005 session or
at the North-South Ironman Tournament held in late August.
YAS tournaments were
held every afternoon and all day Friday during each session. During
the tournaments, players played equally and under the same kind
of circumstances they would experience during regular season games
on their school or community league teams.
Players
who won YAS 2005 Champion Pennants during their regular
sessions are listed below.
Also listed are the 2005 North-South Ironman Tournament Champion Pennant
winners.
The Ironman tournament is a premiere event held
annually on the second last weekend of August. All YAS senior graduates and
accomplished bantam graduates of sessions held earlier during July and
August received invitations to return to play in the Ironman.
They were placed on balanced regional teams and each played 10 basketball
games in two days. They had fun, made new friends, and improved their
basketball skills enormously. |
During each
YAS 2005 session, every player's shooting and ball handling skills
were analyzed and developed through direct instruction and through formal tournament participation.
Each Bantam and Senior player was entered into 7 different
tournaments, each which reinforced the basketball skills they had learned at YAS.
Two of the tournaments were Pressure
Treys (a 3 point shooting tournament that emphasized shot quickness and accuracy under
actual game pressure) and L-7 (a tournament in which players learned
to maintain their scoring touch and accuracy while experiencing
game-level fitness stresses).
Listed below are top
Girls, Bantam Boys and Senior Boys scores from Pressure Treys and L-7
Tournaments held at YAS 2005.
Note: Each player had their choice of new top-of-the-line all-leather
basketballs in the size appropriate for their age and physical strength. |
During each
weekly session of YAS 2005, every player's shooting skills were analyzed and
worked on.
Every Bantam and Senior player was entered into a formal Hot Shot Tournament that emphasized shot quickness and accuracy under game pressure
conditions.
Listed below are the top Bantam and Senior sessions Hot Shot
Tournament scores of 60 or higher during all YAS 2005 sessions.
Each player had their choice from top-of-the line new all-leather
basketballs in the size appropriate for their age and physical
development.
A complete list of the all-time YAS Hot Shot top scores dating from 1983 is included elsewhere on this
web site. See the link titled "All-Time
Official YAS Hot Shot Records" on our home page. You may see the
name of someone you know, maybe your current basketball coach.
|
Each player who graduated from a YAS session during
2005 and also during 4 previous summers
(not necessarily consecutive
summers) received a plaque which noted the number of summers they attended YAS.
Plaque
recipients during YAS 2005 sessions are listed below.
Four special awards were also presented
to volunteer staff members at YAS 2005.
Their names and capacities are listed under the heading "Special Awards."
