YAS North-South Ironman Tournament

Each summer after all the regular weekly sessions of the YAS Basketball School have concluded, senior and bantam players who have graduated from the Saskatoon and Regina sessions are invited to return to play in the two-day YAS North-South Ironman Tournament if they wish.

The annual YAS North-South Ironman Tournament is competitive and fun. Players look forward to playing in it
for many months ahead of time and from year to year. Teams are balanced. Coaches, referees and scorekeepers are highly skilled. Players of all levels of athletic ability and playing experience participate equally and fairly in all of their team's games.

The 2009 YAS North-South Ironman Tournament was held at the Saskatoon Cosmo Civic Centre, August 21 and 22. Six regional teams comprised of six players each played in the two-day tournament. Each team played eight games of four-on-four man-to-man NCAA Front Court skills-development and fun basketball (taught at all YAS senior and bantam sessions).

The YAS 2009 North-South Ironman Tournament Champion Team was "Saskatoon." Team members were: Gino Chan, James Unruh, Brody Jabour, Jenna Halderson and Jonathon Chornomitz.

The Runner Up team was the North West team. Team members were: Tyler Halderson, Tracy Whitstone, Sarah Macatula, Jodi Rathy and Tyrone Horse.

The Consolation Winner was the South West team. Team members were: Connor Backlund-Miller, Leah Teulon,
Ryan Heuser, Ashley Chornomitz, L. J. Veszi and Trina Pasap

The YAS 2010 North-South Ironman Tournament will be held August 27 (Friday) and August 28 (Saturday) in Saskatoon.
The following are automatically invited:
a) Graduates of all YAS 2010 Senior sessions held in Regina and Saskatoon.
b) Graduates of YAS 2010 Bantam sessions who show sufficient competitive ability.
c) Graduates of past years' YAS sessions who are still age 16 or under and who have not attended any other summer basketball school or camp since they last attended YAS.
d) Up to three guests of players eligible by (a), (b) or (c) above who have not played on any urban high school 5A or 4A senior team.


NOTE: Each invited player must call the YAS office (306) 242 - 2425 to accept their invitation and to register their guest(s) in the tournament no later than 1:30 pm Friday, August 27th. YAS staff will create the balanced regional teams for the tournament on Friday morning.

NOTE: The tournament will run from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday and 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturday.
